WELCOME TO THE UPPER MERION SENIOR SERVICE CENTER

September has rolled around again. Time to celebrate Labor Day, an annual public holiday that honors the social and economic achievements of workers. Originating in the late 19th century during the Industrial Revolution, it celebrates the labor movement's fight for fair wages, safe

conditions, and the standard eight-hour workday. All of us have benefited from those advances and protections in our working lives.

We have scheduled several special presentations for September and throughout the upcoming months. Check the calendars and plan to attend. The General Meeting is Wednesday, September 9th. Please sign up and remember that you must attend the meeting to be invited to enjoy lunch.

September is our first call for the upcoming elections for Board positions. Please consider helping to shape the organization by volunteering to become a member of the Board. Our current members selflessly offer their time to make possible many of our current activities and spearhead our

fundraising efforts. I thank them for their commitment to the Senior Center and our members.

Don’t forget, September 13th is Grandparents Day. I hope you can celebrate the day with those grandchildren.

WEATHER CONCERNS

When the weather is bad please call the senior center after 7:30 AM and listen to the voice mail message before venturing out. The voice mail message will indicate if we are closed. The best way to find out if the senior center is closed is to call first (610-265-4715).

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING UPPER MERION POLICIES

The following is the policy followed by the Community Center, and, since the Senior Center is in the Community Center Building, all UMSSC members, Board and staff members are required to abide by this policy:

Participants must abide by all rules and regulations set for by Upper Merion Parks & Recreation relating to participating in trips and activities, including Upper Merion Area School District rules and regulations pertaining to illegal drugs, weapons and smoking.
